The Workshop for Innovators – How to Apply for EU Funds was organized as part of the European project EINSTEIN (Excellence Initiative for Nutrifood-based Theranostics for a Healthy European Society) and took place at the Novi Sad Science and Technology Park (NTP NS). The workshop brought together innovators who are currently operating within the NTP NS ecosystem.

The workshop aimed to:

  • Introduce participants to EU funds and financing programs
  • Understand the application process and project documentation preparation
  • Increase capacity for writing project proposals
  • Facilitate experience sharing and networking among participants

Program and course of the workshop

The workshop was led by Dr. Vladimir Todorović, Head of the Development Center at NTP NS, with extensive experience in the preparation and implementation of EU-funded projects.
The workshop covered the following topics:

  • Overview of Horizon Europe programs – Understanding its structure through the three pillars: Excellent Science, Global Challenges & European Industrial Competitiveness, and Innovative Europe.
  • Financing opportunities – A practical guide through EIC Pathfinder, Transition, and Accelerator calls.
  • How to write a successful project proposal – Key principles, evaluation criteria, and best practices, including SMART objectives and impact analysis.
  • From idea to application – Project life cycle phases, consortium building, and budget management.
  • Partnership building strategies – How to identify the right partners and assemble a strong consortium.
  • Case studies and successful project examples – including a successful Serbian EIC Accelerator project example.

Recommendations

Participants showed a high level of interest in EU funds but also expressed the need for further training.
There was a recognized need to improve capacity for partnership collaboration in projects.
The importance of clearly defining project goals and budgets was emphasized.
The workshop’s goal was to provide startups with practical knowledge to increase their success rate in EU applications and become active participants in the European innovation ecosystem.

Conclusion

The “Workshop for Innovators – How to Apply for EU Funds” proved very useful and productive. The organizers plan to continue providing training and further support to participants in preparing project proposals.
