Open Lab Day: Visit of Subotica Students to the Faculty of Technical Sciences

On 19. 03. 2026. Students from grammar and technical school from Subotica, a city in the northern part of Serbia, came to Novi Sad, to visit the Faculty of Technical Sciences. Their goal was to get informed about programs and subjects held at the faculty. Within this trip, they visited laboratories, out of which, laboratory for micro, nano electronics and bioelectronics was one of them.

The students were introduced to the emerging field of sustainable electronics. The session focused on demonstrating how electronic devices can be fabricated using biodegradable and food-based materials, bridging concepts from materials science, electronics, and environmental sustainability.

During the demonstration, students observed how substrates derived from natural sources such as starch-based composites and plant-derived powders can be processed into flexible electronic platforms. Particular emphasis was placed on how such systems can be applied in next-generation bioelectronic devices, including sensors for healthcare and environmental monitoring.

In addition to fabrication, the characterization techniques used in the laboratory were presented. Students were introduced to electrical measurements, surface analysis, and performance evaluation of devices, gaining insight into how researchers validate the functionality and reliability of edible electronics.

Several working samples were showcased, allowing students to see real devices and understand their operational principles.

This Open Lab Day served not only as an educational experience but also as an inspiration for future studies, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature and societal impact of modern engineering research.
